Georgetown Data Science Corps
Training Students and Educators in Hands-On Data Science
Bringing Together Students and Educators
Our program is designed to foster cross-pollination by bringing together two distinct groups to learn about data science research and pedagogy: high school teachers and undergraduate students. Each cohort will have six high school teachers and six undergraduate students, divided into three mixed-group teams that will work on a data science research project and on developing data science curricula.

Hands-On Research Experience
Participants will engage in tackling complex real-world problems to gain practical skills in data science, including data ethics, data wrangling, data visualization, statistical and machine learning techniques, and scientific communication. The program will enhance the undergraduate students’ educational experience by complementing their academic coursework with real-world data science projects, and the program will enrich STEM education by targeting high school teachers and helping them incorporate data science concepts and methodologies into their teaching.
Dates
The 6-week program will run from June 20th to August 1st, 2026. Participants will have a break on July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.
There is a required fall remote component to the program, which will consist of monthly online meetings during the fall semester (September to December 2026).
Participants must be available for the entire duration of the summer program and the fall experience.
Eligibility
Participants must be US citizens or permanent residents (per NSF requirements).
Undergraduates: Current sophomores and juniors who are majoring in data science, mathematics, statistics, or computer science are encouraged to apply. Undergraduate applicants are not limited to the DC area.
Teachers: For year 1 of the program, only high school teachers in the Washington-DC Metropolitan area are eligible to apply.
Stipend
Teachers will be paid a $6,000 stipend for the summer and will receive $2,370 to cover transportation and meal expenses. After their participation in the remote fall experience, teachers will receive an additional $2,500 stipend for that work.
Undergraduates will be paid a $3,600 stipend, on campus housing, up to $500 in travel reimbursement, and a $1,000 meal stipend for the summer. After their participation in the remote fall experience, undergraduates will receive a $500 stipend for that work.
